Canadiana, 82 anos de idade, Alice Munro foi distinguida com o prémio Nobel da Literatura de 2013. Considerada uma das maiores especialistas contemporâneas do conto, não deixou de exaltar o seu registo preferido, ao tomar conhecimento da consagração: "Espero sinceramente que isto leve as pessoas a reconhecer que o conto é uma arte importante, não apenas uma coisa que se vai experimentando até se conseguir escrever um romance" (citado pelo New York Times).
